Reverse Applique & Applique Techniques in Embroidery

Learn the following techniques and topics: cutting in-the-hoop appliqué, how to create a stencil for appliqué, pre-cut appliqué, reverse appliqué, creating flawless edges on your appliqué, what are “stops”, the order of steps for appliqué, common issues with appliqué, patches (yes, this is appliqué), and why appliqué is used in sewing. There will be four appliqué methods practiced in class, with a bonus design to try at home.
*A pair of appliqué scissors will make cutting out the designs much easier for you.
**You do NOT need a machine to take this course. However, we will be practicing 4 applique methods in class. You are allowed to register and watch others participate if you do not want to bring your machine. Everyone is required to purchase a kit (includes all fabrics and files), which you can make at home at a later time.**
Preferred hoop size: 4”x4” or larger
All Levels
Required class kit, $35 payable to the instructor in class, includes USB Stick, Embroidery design/pattern files, .PDF instructions of workshop (NOT a physical copy), All fabrics needed for each project including base fabrics and appliques.
All kits exclude: tear away stabilizer, threads, bobbin, 75/11 needles, and all scissors.
Students to Provide
- Embroidery machine with embroidery attachment arm and embroidery foot.
**Preferred hoop size: 4” x 4” or 5"x7"
1 yard - Tear Away Stabilizer (be sure you have enough stabilizer for 4-6 hoopings) (available in class, $5/yard) - Fabric Scissors
- *Appliqué scissors (tip of scissors are curved upward - *MUST HAVE FOR CLASS*)
Duckbill Appliqué scissors (different type of applique scissors from list above)
*If you are going to appliqué in a lot of projects, I would suggest purchasing the Gingher Duckbill Appliqué scissors. - 505 or KK100 Spray Adhesive

Embroidery Machine Optional - Students may take the class without a machine and watch if they like, but it would be more enjoyable to have a machine and be able to participate.
