Beauty on the Beach
Full-Day Workshop
9 am - 4 pm, Saturday, September 19
Learn Linda's unique technique for creating perfect New York Beauty blocks using just ONE pin on your first attempt. You'll then incorporate these blocks into a larger block to create a dynamic wall hanging. The technique is sooo addicting and you will see that the New York Beauty block is as versatile as a Nine patch with lots of design potential. Throughout the class, Linda will demonstrate how you can make an optional miniature quilt using the scraps and cutaways from the main project.
All Levels
Required class kit, $30 payable to the instructor in class (cash preferred), includes instructions to finish the quilt started in class, re-useable foundation piecing stencil, custom acrylic templates, and foundation paper that stays in the quilt (no more ripping!). Please note, fabric is not included in kit.
Click here to download Linda's Beauty on the Beach supply list for a 53" x 53" quilt, including fabric requirements and pre-class cutting instructions.
Students to Provide
SEWING MACHINE:
Sewing machine, please have an extension cord, new needle, wind bobbin in a neutral color thread and bring a neutral color top thread. Please have a 1/4” foot on the machine that does NOT have a seam guide or flange on the foot.
FABRIC:
See fabric requirements and pre-class cutting instructions in Linda's downloadable Beauty on the Beach supply list- click here.
GENERAL SUPPLIES:
Rotary cutter (sharp blade) and small mat
Square ruler ( I use 9-1/2” by Omnigrid or Creative Grids)
Scissors, a few straight pins, baggie for scraps
Pigma brush tip pen (I will have some in class $4)
Fabrics pre-cut and bagged by size (I do recommend starching before cutting, but its a personal choice)
Note: We will not get to the borders in class, so it is not necessary to cut or bring them with you.
The sample quilt was made using fabrics from my newest collection from Banyan Batiks— Island Vibes II. In the downloadable supply list/pre-class cutting instructions I have included the SKU and collection information for the fabrics I used. You are most welcome to choose your own fabrics.
See this quilt in other colors/fabric combinations in the Wicked Wahini quilt album on my business Facebook page: FROG HOLLOW DESIGNS
Throughout the class, Linda will demonstrate how to make an optional miniature quilt from the scraps and cutaways of the main project. You may wish to purchase a little extra of each fabric.
