BERNINA Sewing Machines & Accessories provided by
BERNINA of America / A Different Touch
If you are taking a workshop with sponsor-provided BERNINA sewing machines, you must use the sponsor-provided machine and may not bring your own machine. A portion of these workshops may contain sewing machine product information.
Walking Foot Bootcamp
Full-Day Workshop
9 am - 4 pm, Thursday, March 4
Are you tired of stitching in the ditch? Learn to utilize the power of your walking foot (or dual feed) to stitch “near” the ditch instead! It’s much faster and easier, yielding results that are very forgiving and more fun to stitch! Students will be empowered to embrace the beauty of imperfection as they learn to quilt their own quilts. See how a simple straight stitch can yield so many different possibilities.
All Levels
Required class kit, $40 payable to the instructor in class, includes 6 machine quilting practice samples. Each sample consists of a fat quarter-sized printed fabric panel for the front, coordinating backing fabric, and batting in between. The practice panels have been specifically designed by Christa for this workshop. Colors and designs will vary but there will be enough variety for you to practice all of the designs taught. Sample class photo gives an idea of what your panel may look like, but this is not an exact replica of what we will be doing in class; it's for inspiration only.

Students to Provide
• Required: How do I Quilt It book by Christa Watson
o Please purchase ahead of time at shop.ChristaQuilts.com
• Recommended: Christa’s book 99 Machine Quilting Designs
o PDF download available on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ChristaQuilts
• Required class kit for $40 – includes (6) fat quarter-sized machine quilting practice panels (front and back) plus batting. You may pay for this during class.
• Practice quilt sandwich for warm up – two 10”x10” squares of fabric (any color) with batting in between.
• Thread – neutral and at least one other color. I recommend 100% cotton, 50 weight – what you would normally use for piecing. Stay away from thread marked “quilting” or thick or bargain basement thread. Choose a high-quality brand like Aurifil or Wonderfil.
• Brand new needle installed in your sewing machine – in a size to match your thread.
o I recommend 80/12 sharp or topstitch needle for 50 weight cotton thread.
• Thread snips
• Fabric marking tool and small acrylic ruler (1-3” x 6-12”), or painters tape
o See shop.ChristaQuilts.com for Christa’s recommended crease marker
• Sketchbook and pen or pencil for note-taking and design sketching
Also available in class, optional: Book required for class, approximately $30. Patterns from many of the quilt samples shown in class. Approximately $12 each. Additional fabrics for inspiration and play, approximately $12 per yard.
