Intro. to Embroidery Theory & Techniques
Half-Day Workshop
1 pm - 4 pm, Thursday, February 26
Learn about best practices for machine embroidery, including: threads, needles, stabilizers, proper hooping methods, registration, troubleshooting common embroidery issues, adding and editing designs on your machine, digitizing principles, embroidery stitch types, appliqué techniques, floating fabrics, and ITH (in-the-hoop) projects. We will create 3 projects in class: napkin, tote bag, and key fob.
All Levels - Beginner - Confident Beginner Level
Required class kit, $35 payable to the instructor in class, includes USB Stick, Embroidery design/pattern files, PDF instructions of workshop (NOT a physical copy), Napkin, Tote bag, 1 piece of Canvas, 2 pieces of Vinyl, Keyring Clasp, 1 Set of Snaps
*All kits exclude: tear-away stabilizer, threads, bobbin, and 75/11 needles.
Students to Provide
*Machines are optional for this class. We will create 3 projects in class. However, you can complete them at home if you do not want to transport your machine to the class and watch others participate.
*Materials Needed by Student:
- Embroidery machine with embroidery attachment arm and embroidery foot.**Preferred hoop size: 5"x7" or larger (*4”x4” is acceptable; projects will be smaller)
- 1 to 2 yards - Tear Away Stabilizer (available in class, $5/yard)
- Fabric Scissors
- Applique Scissors
- 505 or KK100 Spray Adhesive
- 75/11 Embroidery Needles
- 60 wt. White Embroidery Bobbin
- 40 wt. Embroidery Thread
