Secrets of Stylish Sweatshirt Jackets
Half-Day Workshop
9 am - 12 pm, Thursday, February 26
You’ve seen them before: sweatshirt jackets that droop and sag and are anything but fashionable! Learn the secrets to making stylish sweatshirt jackets that not only fit—they're actually figure-flattering! Discover the tricks that will show you how to convert a humble sweatshirt into a lightweight jacket you can wear anywhere. This 3-hour class will cover: what type of sweatshirt works best, how to fit your figure, options for closures, and simple ways to decorate. Create the basic sweatshirt jacket in class, then decorate it at home using your own designs or select one of Jennifer's "Jiffy Jacket" patterns. Materials fee: $12.50 payable to the instructor in class. Applique kits available for purchase in class.
Confident Beginner Level
Required class kit, $12.50 payable to the instructor in class, includes the class pattern. Also available to purchase in class (optional) fabric kits, some with iron-on appliqués, and handmade buttons. Costs range from $15-$28.
Students to Provide
Sweatshirt with SET-IN sleeves, one size larger than you usually wear;
sewing machine with zigzag;
12"x12" fabric scrap for pressing cloth;
thread to match the color of the sweatshirt;
seam ripper, pins, scissors;
tissue paper to trace pattern;
½ yd fusible web, ½ yd tearaway stabilizer;
paper/pencil to sketch design ideas;
scraps of large floral print fabrics or other fabrics suitable for cutting out designs for applique, and thread to match or contrast with chosen fabrics.
Optional: applique pressing sheet or kitchen parchment paper.
