Full-Day Workshop
9 am - 4 pm, Friday, February 27
Create energetic designs with flair and style using freeform piecing techniques. Brenda will guide you step-by-step through colour, construction, and composition exploring zig-zag lines and shapes. *All images are indicative only and represent what can be achieved using the techniques learned.
All Levels
Students to Provide
General:
•Sewing machine in good working order with 1/4 inch foot (or equivalent needle setting) with knee lift (if you have one)
•Rotary cutter with a SHARP blade
•Cutting mat and ruler
•Chalk pencil (Brenda likes Clover Chaco liners)
•Neutral-coloured thread for piecing
•Spray starch (optional)
•Digital camera or cameraphone
•Batting, flannel sheet or similar to use as a design wall (if venue allows)
Fabrics:
This workshop is most suitable for fabrics that read as a single colour such as solids, tone-on-tone prints and small-scale prints. Ensure that you have a variety of dark and light-coloured fabrics. Not suitable for large-scale prints or hand-dyes/batiks with a lot of variation of colour.
Warm Up Exercises:
Please precut:
•Two 3x12.5in rectangles in contrasting colours
•One 10x3in rectangle and one 10x4in rectangle in the same colour and a 1in selvedge to selvedge strip in a contrasting colour
•Two 4x15in rectangles in contrasting colours.
Further exercises:
Assorted fabrics in both light and dark colours.
