Bodacious Beads
Half-Day Workshop
1 pm - 4 pm, Saturday, February 28
Learn a free-form piecing technique for a versatile bead motif that can be incorporated into your own personal designs. Brenda will be talking about colour, construction and composition for creative momentum. She will share how to make strips of beads and structural variations to create intriguing interlocked designs. She will also share a collection of quilts that feature bead motifs. *All images are indicative only and represent what can be achieved using the techniques learned.
All Levels
Students to Provide
General:
Sewing machine with 1/4 inch foot (or equivalent needle setting)
Rotary cutter with a SHARP blade and cutting mat
Chalk pencil (Brenda likes Clover Chaco liner)
Neutral-coloured thread for piecing
Spray starch (optional)
Fabric Requirements:
This is NOT a precision project. The design can be scaled up or down to fit the size of YOUR composition. The sample shown is approximately 24x24 inches. As a guide, to make a single set of light beads against a dark/contrasting background, you will need:
One 15x3 in strip of light fabric for the beads
One 15x1 in strip of light fabric for the strings
Two 15x1½ in strips of dark fabric for the background
Two 24x1½ in strips of dark fabric for the sides
To make multiple sets, similar to the sample, you will need:
One fat quarter of dark background fabric (at least 18x22in)
One 15x3 in strip
Sewing Machine Required
