Patricia Belyea: Dancing Xs (6 hr WS, Thurs, 6/25/26, 12-6pm EDT)

In the Dancing Xs Workshop, you will learn Patricia Belyea’s signature Inserted Curves technique to make a lyrical quilt composition full of curves! You will start by inserting two intersecting curved lines into a 12-inch square of fabric—no templates required. For this block, you will design your own curves and sew them so they lie perfectly flat to create movement and energy in your design. To continue, you will make six blocks in one color combination and six blocks in another, then arrange them into a striking checkerboard configuration. The finished quilt, measuring approximately 33” W x 44” H, works beautifully as a comfort quilt. Through Patricia’s clear, step-by-step teaching style, you will be guided to stretch your creative muscles while building confidence with curved piecing. You will gain practical construction skills, design insight, and a fresh approach to working with curves that you can apply to future quilts.

Students to Provide

• Sewing gear—such as thread, ripper, etc.
• Sewing machine and accessories
• Fine pins (highly recommend Clover Fine Patchwork Pins #2507)
• Good fabric scissors
• Paper scissors
• Cutting tools— small cutting mat, gridded ruler, rotary cutter
• Drawing pencil and a good eraser
• 2 yd of freezer paper — no folds in paper is best
• Two background fabrics, with large motifs that play well together — 1 yd each
• Two contemporary solids that contrast and complement the background fabrics — 3/4 yd each
