This skill builder workshop is focused on the most versatile building block in a quilter's bag of tricks, the Half Square Triangle. Explore ten different ways to make Half Square Triangles, learn the math behind it, and play with a collection of tools to help make these units quickly and accurately. This workshop sets beginning quilters up for success and opens a world of construction methods for advanced quilters!
All Levels
Required class kit, $20 payable to the instructor in class, includes Quilt Pattern, hand out, a variety of foundation piecing papers, Quilt in a Day 6 ½” Square up Ruler.
Students to Provide
- Choose a variety of prints (or solids will work well too) and a background fabric. Look for good contrast between your prints and background fabric. In class, we’ll always be working with a background fabric (white in my example) and a print fabric.
- From both a print fabric and a background fabric, you’ll need the following:
- (1) 3 ½” square
- (2) 4" squares
- (2) 5¾" squares
- (4) 8" squares
- (1) 4" X WOF strips, (these can be cut from fat quarters: 4" x 21")
- (1) 3" X WOF strips, (these can be cut from fat quarters: 3" x 21")
- (2) 3½" X WOF strips, (these can be cut from fat quarters: 3½" x 21")
- 2 additional fat quarters each print and background for creative play
- Fabric marker (both ligth and dark) I like a mechanical pencil
- Paper scissors
- Seam ripper
- Straight pins
- Thread to match fabrics
- Rotary Cutter with new blade, rotary cutting mat
- 12 ½” square ruler or similar size
- Any other supplies you cannot live without!
