Visit Quilt Studios, the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, plus Lunch & Shopping in Pacific Grove
Friday, October 13, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (approx.) Please board the tour bus promptly at 8:30 AM, front of Hall A, Santa Clara Convention Center.
Join us for a day featuring amazing quilts and a very special studio tour! We’ll begin at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles with the Museum’s Curator of Collections Nancy Bavor, and Exhibits Coordinator Amy DiPlacido leading you on a private tour of the 13th Quilt Nihon Exhibition featuring 30 extraordinary prize-winning quilts by artists from Japan and the Pacific Rim. You will also see historic quilts from the museum’s permanent collection, many a recent gift never before displayed. After an inspiring Museum visit, board the tour bus for the drive to Watsonville and the studio of Rachel D.K. Clark, a contemporary folk artist who comes from a long line of sewers, beginning with her great-grandmother. Eclectic fabric mixes, vibrant designs, and a keen sense of humor characterize Rachel’s work. While her garments and quilts can be whimsical, political or a personal statement it always reflects her love of traditional quilt making. Rachel has designed her own pattern line, RDKC Patterns. She has done many one-woman shows around the country and her work has been featured in various gallery shows, in magazines and on HGTV’s Simply Quilts. For more information, visit www.rdkc.com. Next, we’ll depart for Pacific Grove for shopping at its wonderful quilt shop, Back Porch Fabrics, the whimsical Tessuti Zoo store plus more, and lunch (on your own). After lunch, we will visit Nora Deans’ Pacific Grove studio on the shores of Monterey Bay. Nora’s quilts weave together her love of fabric and her background in communicating about the ocean and the natural world. The graphic beauty and detailed quilting of Amish and antique quilts first drew her to quilting. Nora is president of the Monterey Peninsula Quilters Guild and a member of SAQA. Visit www.noradeansstudio.com for more information. You’ll return to PIQF filled with new ideas and inspiration for future projects! The Quilters Adventure Tour, led by professional tour guide Barbara Lockwood, includes transportation on a deluxe tour bus and Museum admission. Meals are not included.
