Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival Quilt Competition 2024

Competition Themes

Innovative/Traditional Quilts and Wall Quilts
Reflection
Reflect on the positive times and the joyfulness of your years of quilting. How do these years reflect on your creativity and your artwork?

Mid-Century Mod - Modern Quilts
Mid-Century Mod emphasizes the look and feel of mid-20th-century design. Artists are asked to draw inspiration from this period, reflecting their own exposures or from the work of artists such as Joan Miro, Piet Mondrian, Victor Vasarely, Frank Stella, etc.

Quilt Competition Rules

1. Open to all, but must be the work of the person or group applying to the competition. Limit of 2 entries per person or group for each competition: Innovative/Traditional Competition, Mid-Century Mod Competition and/or Wall Quilt Competition. Family members and/or permanent employees of Show Management or sponsors are not eligible. Quilt(s) must be constructed and quilted the person or persons named on the entry form.

2. Quilts and wall quilts only. Entry must be quilted either by hand, sewing machine, or longarm machine. To be eligible for a Best Workmanship Award, the entry must be quilted by the entrant(s). No kits or tied quilts. Quilts (Innovative/Traditional) must be greater than or equal to 1900 square inches. Mid-Century Mod Modern Quilts must be greater than or equal to 1024 square inches. Wall quilts are defined as quilts less than 1900 square inches but more than 576 square inches. The maximum size for quilt entries is 10' high x 10' wide. Traditional and Innovative refer to design, not to construction techniques. Innovative entries should emphasize innovation in design.

3. MAQF (Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival) and its jurors and/or judges reserve the right to move an entry to a category/competition other than the one in which it was entered without notifying the entrant. Final category/competition placement will be at the discretion of the jurors and/or judges.

4. Quilts winning Best of Show, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Place, or a Sewing Machine at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival, QuiltFest Greenville, QuiltFest New England, Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza, Pacific International Quilt Festival, or any Online Quilt Festival (Visuals #1, #2, #3, #4) are not eligible to be judged.

6. Entry must have a 4” sleeve casing for hanging as well as a cloth label with the entry’s title, name, address, and telephone number of the entrant sewn to the back.

7. Ship the entry in a secure carton. We suggest placing the item in a sturdy plastic bag. DO NOT use styrofoam or cellulose products. Because of the difficulty in handling oddly shaped boxes, we encourage you to try to avoid using tubes and elongated boxes. NOTE: If you need to ship your quilt in a tube or elongated box please enclose a check in the amount of $20.00 made out to Mancuso Show Management, Inc. Cost of return shipping and insurance in return transit will be the responsibility of Show Management. The original carton will be used to return the item via UPS or other promoter-designated carriers. Please remove all old shipping labels from the carton prior to shipping.

8. Entries must be available for display at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival, February 29 - March 3, 2024, at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton, VA.

9. If an entry is to be hand-delivered to the festival and/or picked up from the festival, Show Management must be notified in writing using the drop-off/pick-up form, enclosed with the competition acceptance letter, prior to February 6, 2024.

10. If the quilt is to be return-shipped to an address other than the one listed on this form, Show Management must be notified in writing of the change prior to February 6, 2024.

11. If accepted, submitted images become the property of the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival for publicity and/or publication use.

12. Prize winners will be notified and receive awards within thirty (30) business days of the close of the event. Viewer’s Choice will be announced on quiltfest.com.

13. The awarding of any prize makes the entry ineligible for any lesser prize. Viewer’s Choice award is exempt from this rule.

14. Filing of your signed application signifies agreement with these conditions.
