Barbie Swanson Lake City, Florida Barbie Swanson is a nationally known fiber artist, teacher, designer and inventor. She invents tools to aid in design and she creates specialty hand-dyed and painted fabrics and yarns. She has developed techniques for stress free-tool free paper piecing and of chain paper piecing. She has also designed a technique and quilt style she named “Florida applique.” She has won many awards for her art creations and has been published in magazines. The motto for Barbie’s students is “YES, I CAN!” It is what she believes in and anyone working in class or on individual projects with her realizes that they CAN and DO. Her goal for everyone is to move him or her to create something that has meaning and gives pleasure.
No Stress and Chain Paper Piecing, Half Day Friday, 11/12/2010 - 11/12/2010, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Use up those charm squares and scraps you’ve been hoarding to make paper pieced blocks with no stress, strain or special tools. You will learn how to read paper piecing patterns and turn regular pieced blocks into paper piecing blocks. Then, as a special treat, learn how to do chain paper piecing and make a small Star Circle wall hanging. All levels.
Materials List: Pattern kit includes pattern booklet and handouts, $7. Fabric kit includes fabrics for all projects, $15. Fat quarters: 1 background, 1 star points, 1 star accent and border, 1 outside border, 1 back. *Thin cotton batting 16” square ($1). All purpose thread or thinner thread like Metrolene or Bottom Line. Sewing machine with straight stitch. *Tweezers ($6). Personal sewing kit with your favorite scissors, seam ripper, pins, etc. Rotary cutter, small cutting mat and ruler(s). Machine quilting thread. Trash bag. *1/4” quilters tape, optional ($3.69).
