Jane Garrison York, South Carolina Jane Garrison, Director of Education for YLI Corp. began sewing at her mother’s knee and has never stopped. She got her first sewing machine for her 5th birthday. She had lots of family mentors along the way who encouraged her to make clothing, quilt, knit and hand stitch. Jane briefly taught Home Economics & Science in the public school system in Florida and North Carolina, owned a sewing machine dealership, designed two pattern lines and worked for a major sewing machine manufacturer before joining YLI Corporation in 2005.
Jazz Up Your Creations with Surface Embellishment!, Half Day Saturday, 11/13/2010 - 11/13/2010, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Hand embroidery combined with a wide variety of fibers can take embellishment to a new dimension. Several basic stitches will be taught and then expanded upon by experimenting with a variety of threads, ribbons and yarns to completely change the look of the stitch. Hand painted fibers as well as solids and traditional as well as non-traditional fibers will be combined to help you draw out your creative talents in an easy, relaxing and portable project. This class will be taught as a sampler notebook. Each stitch will be demonstrated then you will be free to experiment with various fibers. This class will assume the stitcher is inexperienced, though depending on overall class experience 6 or more basic stitches will be demonstrated along with ideas and examples of how they could be used. Whether you are a quilter, garment constructor, ready-made adaptor or a thread artist this class is for you! Beginner level.
Materials List: 6” clamp embroidery hoop with screw (no spring), small sharp embroidery scissors, fine Pigma or other permanent ink pen and a 1” empty 3 ring binder. If you need extra light or magnifying glasses, don’t forget them! Kit fee of $20 payable to instructor includes all fabric, needles, fibers and handout with sheet protectors. FL 014 35.00

LECTURE What a Difference the Thread Makes, 1-1/2 hours Saturday, 11/13/2010 - 11/13/2010, 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM Thread is a necessity of sewing but it can also be a design element. This lecture will explore the many dimensions thread can add to a finished product. You will see examples of how others have incorporated various materials into their work. We will talk about the properties these materials have and how to make the decisions about which types of products to use in the application. Join Jane Garrison, Director of Education for YLI Corporation as she guides you through a basic understanding of terms, properties and needle choices in order to simplify the decision making process to give you the best outcome with your project.
