Fabric Meets Fusible a.k.a. Broderie Perse/Collage, Full Day Friday, 11/12/2010 - 11/12/2010, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Get set for free-spirited fun by selecting your favorite theme and motifs from various fabrics and fusing them to create your personal composition. You will ‘build’ a design on the background of your choice, then fuse and stitch the elements into a delectable wall quilt. We will discuss the delights of adding embellishments which you will be able to do at your leisure. All levels.
Materials List: Pick a theme - e.g. flowers, fish, critters, Americana, food, Christmas - anything you love. Search your fabrics and pull out every fabric that goes with your theme. Purchase fat quarters with motifs that sing. Home dec fabrics can be used. Look at the fabric in a new way - ignore the background color as that will be cut away. Select a background fabric of any measurement except dinky postcard size! I prefer about 20” x 30”. Backgrounds can be solids or tone-on-tones. Batiks work well. Avoid multi-colored backgrounds as they can be distracting. You might want to pack a dark and a light value and audition them in class. Add backing and cotton batting sized about 6” larger than your background (this allows the later addition of borders with ease). Tools you will need: 2 yds fusible (Steam-a-Seam 2 is re-positionable), Teflon/silicon pressing sheet (or parchment paper), paper scissors, small fabric scissors, straight pins, safety pins for basting, contrasting and matching threads, sewing machine with zig-zag capabilities, cord, foot pedal, machine platform if yours has one, walking foot, free motion foot, open toe appliqué foot if you have one, 3 empty bobbins, #80 sharp needles or top-stitch needles if using metallic thread. Machine needles ($4/pack) and Steam-a-Seam 2 ($5/yd) will be available to purchase from instructor. Sewing machine required. FL 007 65.00
