Robbi Joy Eklow Third Lake, Illinois Robbi writes a column for Quilting Arts magazine under the byline “Goddess of the Last Minute.” She has also written a new book, The Goddess of the Last Minute, which is a collection of brand new essays about the life and times of a contemporary quilter. Her first book, Free Expression: The art and confessions of a contemporary quilter covers HOW she makes her quilts. She lectures and teaches all over the US when she’s not at home making art quilts and avoiding housework. Robbi has had several “one woman” exhibits for us and has also won many awards in our family of quilt shows. You are invited to visit her eponymous web site: www.robbieklow.com and you can email her at robbi@robbieklow.com.
Expressive Unmarked Free Motion Quilting, Full Day Friday, 11/12/2010 - 11/12/2010, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM a Contemporary Quilter, shares her award winning, time saving techniques to fill your quilts with lavish designs. It’s fun and easy. We’ll be practicing on inexpensive felt rectangles in the morning, switching to muslin sandwiches in the afternoon. Beginner / Intermediate levels.
Materials List: Twenty precut 9” x 12” felt rectangles, any color. Two 18” x 18” practice quilt sandwiches, muslin for bread, cotton or wool batting for the “meat.” Don’t baste! 40 weight polyester, cotton or rayon machine embroidery thread - 1 spool solid color, 1 spool variegated. Sewing machine in good working order and with which you are familiar. It is assumed you will know how to set up your machine for darning. Sewing machine manual. Free motion or darning foot for your machine. Extension cord. Sewing machine needles - size 75, 80 or 90, scissors to clip threads, tweezers to remove thread if necessary, small paint brush to clean lint out of machine, pen and paper to take notes and practice drawing quilt patterns. I highly recommend glasses to protect your eyes in case you break a needle and it flies. Robbi had a two part article covering her techniques in Quilting Arts Magazine Issue #11 and #12 and covers free motion quilting in her book Free Expression. Sewing machine required. FL 004 65.00

Fusing Fiesta, Full Day Saturday, 11/13/2010 - 11/13/2010, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Robbi uses fusible webbing to create sophisticated art quilts, ranging from simple to complex. Fusible appliqué allows students to finish a simple 18” x 24” quilt top in one day or get started on a more complicated design based on modular units that create larger quilts. Students will have over a dozen patterns to choose from in class; there is something for every skill level and there is always something new. All levels.
Materials List: Students will choose at least one pattern to use in class. Mechanical pencil, paper cutting scissors, 4” or similar size scissors to cut detailed shapes out of fabric bonded to webbing. Glass head quilt pins. White marking pencil or chalk wheel. At least 2 yds paper backed fusible webbing (Regular weight WonderUnder recommended. Heat and Bond will not work. Only bring Steam A Seam if you have used it in the past and prefer it.) Fat quarters or large scraps of cotton hand dyes, batiks or brightly colored prints. Bring 2 values of each color: yellow, orange, red, purple, blue and green to have a varied palette. Also include a few neutrals for backgrounds. Optional: small sheet of foam core to use as a work surface, small iron (100 watts), small light box, extension cord for previous items, compass to draw circles, Sharpie ultrafine marker (not pen). $5 pattern fee payable to instructor.
