Her pictorial art quilts (created from fused fabrics and hand-embroidered or machine quilted) are collected and exhibited internationally. Her narrative quilts beging with her unique hand-dyed fabrics and are inspired by stories of family, friends and home. The whimsical wall pieces often chronicle her life. Zen Doodle Quilts, Full Day

Explore the art of Zen Doodling and design an original art quilt at the same time. Discover how to convert that drawing into a pattern for your quilt. With an easy pattern transfer process for fused fabric, your drawing quickly becomes a fused art quilt. New fusing tips and tricks are presented to enhance your Zen doodle design. A kit of colorful hand-dyed fabrics and threads are provided to give you the freedom to play. (No sewing machine needed.) $25 Kit fee payable to instructor. Intermediate level. Materials List: 2 yards of regular weight Wonder-Under (paper backed, #805). Please DO NOT BRING HEAT ‘N BOND or STEAM A SEAM. Small sharp scissors like 5” knife blade scissors. Paper scissors. Black fine point Sharpie marker and a #2 lead pencil. Small sketchbook (optional). Rotary cutter, ruler, and mat. Specialty rotary cutter blades, such as Pinking, Wavy or Scallop (optional). Batting, 1 piece measuring about 18” x 18”. Quilt backing fabric, 1 piece measuring about 18” x 18”. Teflon sheet (optional). Thimble (optional). Tweezers (optional). Small plastic bag for fabric scraps. $25 Kit Fee: Includes hand out, drawing paper, parchment paper, hand-dyed fabrics and threads, and a needle.

Colorful Leaves, Full Day

You’ll create your own leaf design the easy way- with fused fabrics. Learn a quick pattern transfer method and the basic principles of designing artwork (like repetition, variety, and contrast). Your kit includes all the fabric colors and values needed to make 4 small leaves for this design tutorial as well as a sampler of embroidery thread for stitching detail, texture, and pattern on the surface. (No sewing machine needed.) Beginner level. Materials List: $25 kit fee payable to instructor; kit includes hand-outs, hand-dyed fabrics and threads and a needle. Tiny Homes, Full Day

Create a little house quilt and receive a degree in Architecture from the Chicago School of Fusing at the same time! In this workshop we explore the many techniques of fusing: free cutting, layering, collage building, improvisational design, and more. The result is a whimsical neighborhood placed in a colorful landscape setting and made from beautifully hand-dyed fabrics. (No sewing machine is needed.) Beginner level. Materials List: 2 yards of regular weight Wonder-Under fusible web (paper backed #805). Please DO NOT BRING HEAT ‘N BOND or STEAM A SEAM. Sharp scissors. Small, 5” knife blade scissors work well. Paper scissors. Rotary cutters, ruler and mat. Specialty blades, like Pinking, Wavy or Scallop. Cotton batting like Hobbs Cotton Heirloom Batting recommended, 1 piece measuring about 18” x 18”. Quilt backing fabric, 1 piece measuring about 18” x 18”. Thimble (optional).
