Zen and the Art of Free Form Fiberscapes, Full Day
Thursday, 9/18/2014 - 9/18/2014, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
You will create a free form fabric collage using many different surface design techniques and fabric manipulation. Find out how relaxing and liberating it is when you don’t have to follow rules or measure anything. Learn about essential design principles to make a beautiful fantasy view or use one of my patterns ($10 each). You will learn how to make multi-fabric tree trunks and fiber lace using Sulky Solvy water soluble stabilizer, fused appliqué, free-motion machine embroidery and thread painting, bobbin drawing and couching, and embellishing with Angelina, Textiva and foil. All levels. Materials List: Lots of small pieces (fat quarter size) of landscape fabrics (browns, greens and sky); I prefer batiks and hand-dyes. Hand-dyed fabrics will be available for sale in class, $20/yard. Embellishments (green and brown threads, yarns and ribbons). 3 yards of fusible web (with paper backing) such as WonderUnder or Steam-a-Seam. Sulky Solvy water soluble stabilizer (available in class, $5). Teflon pressing sheet. Paper, Sharpie and pencil. Sewing supplies including scissors, pins, machine embroidery threads, rotary cutter and mat, small iron and pad. A sewing machine in good working order. It doesn’t have to be fancy machine as long as you can either lower or cover the feed dogs for free-motion embroidery and quilting. A darning foot is a must, too. Sewing machine required.
