Quilters Adventure Tour

Visit Quilt Studios in Santa Cruz, the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles plus shopping in San Juan Bautista

Friday, October 17, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (approx.)

Please board the tour bus promptly at 8 am in front of Hall A of the Santa Clara Convention Center.

Join us for a day featuring amazing quilts and quilt artists! We’ll begin at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles with a private tour of International TECHstyle Art Biennial 3 led by the Museum’s Curator of Collections, Nancy Bavor. ITAB is a juried exhibition of work by artists merging fiber media with new information and communication technologies in their artistic processes, as a medium of artistic expression, and/or in the content of their work. After an inspiring Museum visit, board the tour bus for a drive down the highway to the little town of San Juan Bautista where you’ll see a historic mission and have a chance to shop along a main street that includes a quilt shop, or tour the mission (admission fee not included). Next, enjoy the back-country roads on the way to Santa Cruz for lunch (on your own) on the famous Pacific Garden Mall. You will delight in stunning ocean views as we drive past the Boardwalk, wharf and lighthouse on our way to the quilt studios of Susan Else and Ann Baldwin May. Susan Else uses collaged and quilted fabric to create unusual sculpture. Ranging from wry comments on everyday life to wild imaginary scenes, her engaging, vibrantly colored work adds a new dimension to the usual flat format of  quilts. Ann Baldwin May’s art quilts may be abstract, whimsical or impressionistic, and are inspired by the natural world as well as from Mexican and Native American influences. Her materials of choice are often redirected fabrics from the San Francisco Design Center and found objects. Before we head back to PIQF you’ll see amazingly tall redwood trees on a driving tour through the UC Santa Cruz campus. You’ll return to PIQF filled with new ideas and inspiration for future projects! The Quilters Adventure Tour includes transportation on a deluxe tour bus, a professional tour guide and Museum admission. Meals are not included.
